One of Dr. Eric Bricker, MD latest videos is a great example of partnership (https://lnkd.in/gmkz4C_g) Because of the tenacity Purdue University’s Senior Director of Benefits, Candace Shaffer, M.S., CWPM, had her team was able to leverage their partners to keep their health care trend to 1% per year since 2016. Not only has the university saved money, but the employees have also. As Dr. Bricker says in his video, “Purdue has saved $149M since 2016 and the employees have saved $50M. That is an amount of money equal to 1,637 4-year scholarships for Purdue students and $2,778 in the pocket of each and every employee”. Amazing!!!
Dr. Bricker concludes that this amazing achievement was done by having a large benefits team. Size is not always the key to success. You can have all the people in the world, but if they are not the right people, the needle will not move.
I would argue that in addition to an amazing staff, Purdue University has partnered with the right organizations.
LHD Benefit Advisors is Purdue’s benefit broker. They act as the conductor and bring all the parties to the table to support Purdue. Because their only incentive is to keep Purdue happy with their service, their goal is to find the right partners to meet their clients’ needs.
Vital Incite: Population Health Solutions reporting allows organizations to easily see where their healthcare issues are. Vital Incite arms their clients with the data and it is up to the client to find a solution.
Archimedes is managing Purdue’s specialty patients. Archimedes is committed to making sure that employers are paying a fair price for specialty drugs and that the right drugs are being covered by the plan.
One to One Health has an amazing onsite clinic system. I have worked with them in the past and each of their clinics customizes the services they provide to meet each clients’ needs.
Bottomline, the success at Purdue University wouldn’t have been possible without the commitment by the leadership within the Benefits department to do better, the focus of the supporting staff to accomplish leadership’s goals and the partnership of the vendors that have been brought in to support them. It takes a village to make change. This is such a remarkable story.
